برای بررسی مفهوم قید، ابتدا یکی از کلمات جلسات پیش را در سه مشتق مختلف مرور کردیم.

گاهی اوقات نیاز به واژه ای داریم که فعل را توصیف کند. مثالهای فارسی زیر را مطالعه کنید:
- او به شیوه ی متفاوتی رفتار کرد.
- استاد به شیوه ی مناسبی پاسخ سوالات را داد.
- رییس جمهور به طرز بدی جلسه را ترک کرد.
- ما به خوبی متوجه منظور او شدیم.
- کشور به سرعت پیشرفت کرد.
در چنین شرایطی، نیاز به مشتق قید داریم. در این جلسه، قید را برای تنها یک واژه بررسی کردیم.

مثالها:
- They behave differently than their parents.
آنها در قیاس با والدینشان، به شیوه متفاوتی رفتار کردند
- Students respond differently according to their level.
دانشجوها بر حسب سطحشون، به شیوه های متفاوتی پاسخ می دهند.
- Some teachers like to do things a little differently in the classroom.
بعضی معلم ها علاقه دارند که در کلاس به شیوه ی متفاوتی رفتار کنند
- For the Christmas that year, the kids dressed a bit differently.
برای کریسمس اون سال، بچه ها به شیوه ی متفاوتی لباس پوشیدند.
